Raith Game Postponed

Dundee’s match with Raith Rovers on Saturday has been postponed due to the Scottish referees strike.

The SFA stated earlier in the week that they planned on drafting in foreign referees to cover all 20 weekend Scottish fixtures however Dutch, Icelandic, Norwegian, Irish, Welsh, Estonian and Swedish referees all refused to cross the picket line meaning all games were in doubt.

Today however, the have said SFA that an “agreement has been reached with several European national associations” meaning all Scottish Premier League games, the ALBA Challenge Cup final, Morton v Falkirk and Scottish Cup Replays will be able to go ahead.

Appeal To Be Heard In December

November 25, 2010

SFL chief executive David Longmuir has today confirmed that Dundee’s appeal against the 25 point penalty for entering administration will be heard sometime in December.

Longmuir said “We are aiming to hold the meeting before Christmas, probably by the second or third week in December at the latest.

“I’d like to have the date confirmed by the end of this week because we want this hearing to take place as soon as possible within that 14-day window.

“Once we have the date we can send all our members the submissions, the weighty tomes of paperwork which go with this.”

It is thought that if the SFL panel uphold their decision Dundee will enter a legal appeal against the unjust punishment.

We’ve Got A Mountain To Climb

November 23, 2010

When we Dundee fans were told the scale of our clubs financial situation we all agreed that we had a huge mountain to climb in order to keep our club alive.

On Sunday a group of 9 supporters did their big to help climb this mountain by, you guessed it, climbing a mountain.

The group set off on Sunday morning and after the 7 hour trek in deep snow and -15 degree temperatures reached the highest point in Britain, the summit of Ben Nevis.

The hard work raised over £3500 but it’s still not over for all involved. Simon MacKay explains, “I live beside the Ben and asking the locals to sponsor 1 climb up the it is akin to a Dundonain asking for sponsorship to climb the hilltown.

“I’m personally having to climb the Ben 7 times for my sponsorship which equates to roughly the size of Everest. The thinking was DFC has their biggest ever mountain to climb so I would match that by climbing the height of the biggest mountain in the world.”

I’d like to say well done to all the guys for the great achievement and good luck to Simon on his remaining climbs.

Scottish Referees Set To Strike

November 21, 2010

Dundee’s game away to Raith Rovers on Saturday looks set not to go ahead after the decision to take strike action was reached at a Scottish referees’ union meeting held this afternoon.

BBC Scotland reports that “officials are concerned that their integrity is constantly being questioned and there are increasing fears over personal safety as a result of public criticism from managers and the media.”

All Scottish Premier League and Scottish Football League are under threat, as is the ALBA Challenge Cup Final.

We all know that this is due to Celtic FC’s manager, players and officials constant criticism of the referees. There’s even been reports of referees receiving death threats after giving decisions again the Parkhead club.

Although I admit that the standard of some referee’s in Scotland needs improved, I 100% support them in this action.

The governing bodies of our game need to eliminate the Old Firm’s bullying tactics. Celtic should be severely punished for bringing the game into disrepute.

Lochee United Match Report

November 20, 2010

A brilliant crowd of 1700 braved the Baltic conditions to turn-out and support Craig Robertson’s testimonial game at Thompson Park.

The teams were piped onto the pitch to the well-known tune “Bonnie Dundee” and the biggest applause of the day came as Craig ran out to play against the club he has always supported.

Dundee started with current manager Barry Smith and past players Javier “Harry” Artero, Bobby Glennie, Tosh McKinlay and Andy Dow playing alongside current youth players.

Despite some good passing plays it was clear to see that some of the starting eleven were, shall we say, out of practice. The Lochee United team, who currently sit third in the Scottish Junior East Region Super League, easily swept into a 6-0 lead by half-time.

The second half saw Robertson fulfil a lifelong dream when he was made Dundee captain. The introduction of more youth players evened up the game and fine performances from both keepers meant the half went by goalless.

In the end the result didn’t matter, what mattered was that 1700 people turned out to honour Craig Robertson for 10 years servitude for the junior club.

Lochee United vs Dundee XI

Craig Robertson Testimonial

Saturday 20th November

Thomson Park

Kick-Off 2pm

A Dundee XI consisting of players from the present squad and legends from the past will travel to Thomson Park, the home of junior side Lochee United on Saturday to play in Craig Robertson’s testimonial match.

Craig Robertson is in his 10th season playing for Lochee but is a passionate Dundee supporter. He has very kindly decided to donate all proceeds from the match to the Dundee FC Supporters Society to go towards helping our clubs survival.

Former players Javier Artero and  Miguel Artero are travelling from Spain to play in this match. They will line alongside other legends Bobby Geddes, Bobby Glennie, Tosh McKinlay, Rab Shannon, Andy Dow and current manager Barry Smith (others possibly still to be announced). I am hopeful that we will also get to see some youth players have their first run-out for the full team.

Kick-off is at 2pm and entry is only £8 for adults and £2 for OAPs and Under 16’s. Hopefully a big crowd will turn out to support Craig on his day and also raise some dough for the Dees.

Administrator Praises Fans Efforts

November 19, 2010

Dundee administrator Bryan Jackson has praised the fans for their fundraising efforts.

Through events such as a cabaret night and Dundee MAD‘s flag fund the fans have so far raised over £130,000 but Jackson has warned that this amount needs to be doubled to achieve the club’s survival.

Jackson said: “The response of the fans, the community and the city of Dundee has been unbelievable over the last month and they should be justly proud of what they have achieved in such a short time.

“My only concern is that the clock is still ticking and I want to encourage everyone to maintain their fundraising activities over the next month.

“The supporters trust has made an outstanding effort in raising a total of £130,000 to date. However, this needs to be doubled to reach our target.

“A business trust has also recently met to discuss ways to raise funds so it is clear the fans and the community remain committed.

“It is hoped that the business trust will match the total amount to be raised by the supporters.”
