Local Businesses To Help The Dee

December 10, 2010

Around 50 local Dundonian businessmen attended the first meeting of the Dark Blues Business Trust on Thursday evening at the Dundee Ice Arena.

It was explained at the meeting that the aim of the trust was to help the club reach the target of £300,000 to get out of administration and also help to secure its long-term future which includes buying back Dens Park.

Trust spokesman Peter Marr spoke to The Courier about the event. He said:

“I think it went quite well, about 40 of those present signed up and that’s the hard part. Now we’ve got to work hard and get more pledges — there were a lot of people not there who are already involved but couldn’t make it on the night due to the weather.

“And I’d like to say there’s someone here tonight whose father died recently and his mother has pledged £5000 to the trust. They are big Dundee fans and that’s the sort of thing we keep hearing about.

“We’re quite confident — we’re definitely well into five figures now and the response tonight was good.”

The BBC also have a video interview with Peter Marr which can be found here.

Jackson: Chances Of Survival Are Still 50-50

December 3, 2010

Dundee administrator Bryan Jackson has admitted that the club’s chances of survival are still 50-50.

Following the postponement of Saturday’s game against Cowdenbeath and the fund-raising derby against Dundee United Jackson revealed that cashflow problems are now the biggest threat to our club and not the 25-point SFL penalty.

However the appeal will still go ahead as planned on the 17th of December. Jackson said: “The cashflow problem is more significant than the appeal. But we still intend to fight the deduction because one or two people who were interested in the club were put off by that.”

“Games being called off is an obvious concern, particularly as December was always going to be a critical month for us in terms of cashflow.

“I need to keep the club afloat just now because if we can make it through December then the postponed games will be replayed.

“We have the Scottish Cup tie against Motherwell and the money we will receive from Sky for that could literally be a lifesaver.

“I don’t have an exit route and I need to raise money quickly. I would say our chances of doing that are about 50-50.”
